Freelance Journalism

No other journalist in Southwestern Ontario matches Jeffrey Reed’s rare combination of experience, professional writing and broadcasting skills plus success as an entrepreneur. With both print and broadcast journalism roots established in 1980 as a high school student, Jeffrey Reed is widely regarded as one of Canada’s leading freelance journalists. In fact, when he established his company, Jeffrey Reed Reporting, in 1989, he decided then to work as a full-time freelance communications specialist. And at the same time, he has a passion for working with editors and news directors as a much-valued team member in print and broadcast newsrooms.

Most local readers, viewers and listeners recognize Jeffrey as one of Canada’s top sports journalists who has captured six writing awards in Canada and the U.S. He is publisher and editor of LondonOntarioGolf.com (est. 2004) – The Voice of Golf in Southwestern Ontario, which captured three awards for writing excellence presented by the Golf Journalists Association of Canada. That award-winning website is now published in its entirety at LondonOntarioSports.com (est. 2015) – London’s Trusted Source for Sports News & Information.

Jeffrey has also captured three first-place writing awards presented by the National Mature Media Awards for his excellence in feature writing (sports). His series of stories about the Montréal Canadiens-Toronto Maple Leafs rivalry of the 1950s and ‘60s drew international attention.

As a freelance writer whose byline has appeared in every major newspaper in Canada, Jeffrey has also cemented for himself a place in literary history as one of the country’s most prolific periodical writers over the past four decades. A graduate from the highly-regarded School of Broadcast Journalism (1983) at Fanshawe College of Applied Arts & Technology, and a veteran of both broadcast and print journalism, Jeffrey’s writing skills focusing on news are as strong as his sports journalism talents. He’s the longest-running freelance contributor to The London Free Press, with a working relationship dating back to the early-1980s. He has worked as a news reporter and broadcaster – as a staff and freelance contributor – in every local radio newsroom. CTV Kitchener has recognized him as a knowledgeable and talented commentator on current events. And he has written about almost every topic – from major highway construction to world-class entertainment – for hundreds of newspapers and magazines.

As a writer, producer and host, Jeffrey has broken ground locally with two of London’s top-ranked sports broadcasts. His weekly half-hour radio show, Sports Rap, was the last show of its kind in the London market. And his weekly TV show, Forest City Fairways, was a staple within the golf hotbed of Southwestern Ontario.

A three-time author, Jeffrey Reed wrote London’s first-ever baseball history book: EBBA 40 Years of Baseball (1994), chronicling the genesis and progression of the Eager Beaver Baseball Association, London’s original organized minor sports association. Many until-then unknown dates in history were revealed in this book, which also features Jeffrey’s photography.

Jeffrey’s second book, Building Distinction: 100 Years of Construction in London (1998) tells the story of a century of institutional, industrial and commercial construction in London. It, too, features Jeffrey’s photography.

And in 2018, Jeffrey’s third book, The Canadian Seniors’ Golf Association, Celebrating 100 Years of Seniors Golf 1918-2018, was published by the CSGA and promptly found a home in the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame & Museum.

Editors know that they can depend on Jeffrey Reed, a credible journalist whose copy is clean, accurate, informative, entertaining and delivered prior to deadlines. Radio and television newsrooms can also depend on Jeffrey for insight into local sports that no one else can deliver – it’s no wonder Jeffrey was recently nominated for the London Sports Hall of Fame.

Jeffrey Reed is available for new writing assignments and welcomes the opportunity to work with new editors and publications. He has a special interest in sports, business, manufacturing and all sectors of construction.

“Jeffrey … is professional, prompt and communicative, which makes him an absolute joy to work with. I look forward to continuing to work with Jeffrey and highly recommend him to anyone looking for writing services.”

“I had the pleasure of working with Jeffrey Reed for 10-plus years at the London & District Construction Association. During that time, Jeffrey was primarily responsible for the LDCA's editorial and photography content for their annual magazine and other organizational publications. Jeffrey was always professional, thorough and produced excellent work. Jeffrey is a highly regarded communications professional and I would very much recommend his services.”
